If you want to see the stars, or the planet 🪐 close up, then a guided tour by a local astronomer working in the observatory is a must. Through the gigantic telescope you’ll be able to see some crazy, fascinating colours and shapes like the traffic lights, jewel box and a haze that most described as like seeing the pretri fish under the microscope,…As for a (hopeless) romantic like me, it looked like a dandelion ready to be blown away…

Blown away indeed, the stars scattered the darkest sky in Australia and perhaps the Southern Hemisphere is unforgettable.





Lucky we had a super sunny day with the new moon (1%moon) and clear sky. I’ve seen shooting stars in many rural areas in Australia and New Zealand, but never as bright as the ones we saw. They’re like little crystal sparkles that glides across the darkness, surprisingly, relatively slow. Spectators like us marvelled and wowed synchronously…

When you think about the stars that we see maybe from the time when T. rex reigned or vanished. Totally mind blowing stuff!


Worth the drive!


A tip: driving from Sydney, 2 x nights wine and dine in Mudgee is a huge bonus 🤣!
