Maroubra Beach is best for its long coastline, big surfs and bra-boys, lesser known for its connecting route to Malabar Beach, except the locals.
Well, even if we’re just nearby in Coogee, this was a nice discovery during the first lockdown when we could only travel within 10km from home.
The Malabar Headland walk is an easy 4km loop, You can enter the walk either via Pioneer Park in Malabar or from the South Maroubra Surf Lifesaving club. When starting from the Surf Lifesaving club, you’ll walk along the coast reaching Boora Point, then returning through the inland Western Walking track.
A nature lover’s oasis, you’d be surprised by the rugged nature this track has to offer, given its proximity to Maroubra junction shops. My favourite part is near Boora Point where the cliff seems like a cake sliced in the middle. I love hearing the powerful waves crushing on rocks and imagine myself in a dessert island…

The good news is, the beautiful ‘desert island’ happen to be fairly close to some beachside cafe where you’ll be able to reward yourself with a smoothie or coffee after the walk. Whichever way you start/end, there are cafes in Maroubra beach or Malabar beach. How convenient!

💡 Most of the track is paved however it is rather narrow and not super wheelchair friendly. Pram maybe possible if you have strong arms to lift the pram every now and then!
💡 Fluffy friends (dogs) are not allowed.
💡There’re toilets on either end (Maroubra Beach and Malabar beach) but nothing during the 4km loop.
